Business Planning in an Era of Restraint

Email this Page    Print-Friendly Version

Summary:
This course will provide you with a practical experience of the business planning process from a design thinking perspective, to reflect current business changes and resource constraints. We start by exploring how past/current planning approaches may need to shift so that risks and resources can be managed differently. We also want to make the planning experience more creative, realistic and worthwhile.

Design thinking is a form of creative thinking-in-action used to resolve real-life problems that have challenging constraints; it combines empathy, creativity and rationality.

We apply design thinking by sourcing ideas through collaboration, and practice prototyping a business plan. We develop and test ideas that build on strengths to ensure ongoing capacity. We conclude by identifying ways of measuring success that are consistent with organizational performance expectations, including the MAF, values and employee retention objectives.
