User Group General Business Session Come and speak with your peers at the opsXchange User Group General Business Session.

New Age Autonomic Computing - Linking Performance Monitors and Automation Solutions In many of today’s complex data center environments, customers are refining their workload manager service policies, implementing Intelligent Resource Director (IRD), and investigating enterprise WLM (EWLM), to help enhance their continuous availability and high performance environments. But, utilizing just these tools may not be enough to achieve the desired results. This session looks at some autonomic processes to link your currently installed performance monitors and automation solutions to increase the effectiveness for self-monitoring, self-configuring, and self-healing of critical business applications.

New Age Performance Monitoring In today’s complex data center environments, monitoring performance is still an important function. How we performed this function in the past, was good for those old environments. Today, we must adopt new concepts and methodologies to provide effective resource usage, and take the necessary corrective actions to protect these precious resources. This session will look at some of these New Age Concepts.

Unicenter CA-OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation Track

Using OPSLOG and Understanding its future direction This session will show the many ways in which OPSLOG can be used to increase productivity in your data center. We will also discuss what our outlook for OPSLOG is as we move forward.

Introducing OPS/MVS r11.5 and Moving Ahead with r11.6 This session will focus on the new and enhanced features of Unicenter OPS/MVS r11.5 and provide additional insight into what is being planned for Unicenter OPS/MVS beyond this release.

OPS/MVS Automates Enterprise-Wide Events Attend this session for a discussion on how the integration capabilities of OPS/MVS provides value in meeting your organizations enterprise-wide automation objectives.

Achieving GDPS Objectives with CA's automated solutions This session will discuss what IBM's GDPS service offering is and how you can effectively achieve your business continuity objectives, including creation of automated DASD mirroring solution, with Unicenter CA-OPS/MVS and Unicenter Automation Point.

New health check automated applications available with OPS/MVS This session will cover the automated applications that the OPS/MVS team has created that enhance the functionality of the new IBM Health Checker technology.

The need to eliminate one-byte Console ids from OPS/MVS automation scripts Starting with z/OS version 1.4.2 and continuing with the next few z/OS releases, IBM is shipping a series of enhancements to console services under the umbrella title of "Console Restructure" enhancements. Attend this session to learn more about the impact of these "console restructure" enhancements and how your automation REXX code can be prepared for these coming changes.

Configuring and Using OPSLOG WebView with SSL Communications - Lab Obtain an overview of the technology that makes digital certificates work, followed by a hands-on lab in which we will create a certificate, install it in an OPSLOG WebView client, and see it work.

Migrating from SSM to the New SSM Global Application - Lab Learn how to turn your existing MSF-connected SSM systems into an SSMplex by using this new packaged solution available in Unicenter CA-OPS/MVS r11.5. SSMGA provides a single point of control, capable of handling prerequisite definitions and movement of resources across systems in the SSMplex. New and existing customers both can benefit from this detailed overview, discussion, and demonstration of the capabilities of SSMGA.

Collecting OPS/MVS Alerts in a Remote Console Session - Lab Observe how Unicenter CA-Remote Console can be used as a mainframe “closest to the source” alert console for alerts identified through Unicenter CA-OPS/MVS. We’ll demonstrate how Unicenter CA-Remote Console, a TSO/VTAM based application, allows you to customize the message view including through colorization of messages and creating quadrants or zones. For example, separate zones can be defined to segregate severity 1 from severity 2 alerts, or allow tape operators to have a profile that receives tape related alerts and system tape mount messages only and CICS programmers to have a profile for CICS related alerts. Finally you’ll see how you can collect messages from across the sysplex with Unicenter CA-Remote Console, thus creating a focal alert view.

APGTRACK: Tracking Availability via OPS/MVS A customer implementation of availability tracking using OPS/MVS functionality.

Disaster Recovery Flexibility with SSM Mellon Financial Corporation's implementation of System State Manager designed specifically for disaster recovery flexibility; incorporating system failover, application moves and tertiary site recovery. This application makes heavy use of RDF tables and generic REXX routines eliminating the need to replicate SSM resource information across multiple LPARs while still allowing near instantaneous intra-SYSPLEX recovery.

Unicenter Automation Point Track

Integration Possibilities with Automation Point This session will show both our built-in integration with other products and potentially show other custom integration ideas (such as integrating with Service Desk, etc.)

Choosing the right Remote Viewing Tool This session will describe both Remote Viewer and Web MV, including when to consider using each tool.

Automation - Lab This lab will walk the user through setting up different types of automated and non-automated sessions.

Notification - Lab This lab will walk the user through the configuration of different notification techniques (alphanumeric paging, 2-Way paging, e-mail, etc.). We will also include the setup of the Notification Website and defining notification policy using this website.

AP Features and Futures This session will focus on the new and enhanced features of Unicenter Automation Point r11.1 and provide additional insight into what is being planned for Unicenter Automation Point beyond this release.
