Introduction to TSO and ISPF

Summary:
An introduction for new users or refresher for existing users, this course provides an overview of the Native TSO environment and the ISPF user interface. Editing skills and new features are emphasized. This course was originally developed for CA-ROSCOE users moving to the TSO/ISPF environment and contains material relevant to advanced MVS users. This allows the presentation to be geared toward more advanced users with a CA-ROSCOE or TSO/ISPF background.

2 Days/Lecture & Lab

Audience:
This course is designed for students who are new to TSO/ISPF or those that need a refresher course.

Topics:

  • Introduction to course and an overview of the user environment.
  • Comparison of NATIVE (TSO) and ISPF modes.
  • Useful TSO commands, including recommendations for CA-ROSCOE users.
  • ISPF Hierarchy.
  • ISPF Help Facilities.
  • ISPF Settings.
  • SDSF or site equivalent ( IOF, EJES, SYSVIEW, JESMASTER, etc. )
  • Function Key usage and definition.
  • ISPF command review.
  • Using ISPF Utilities (Allocate, Copy, etc.)
  • Using the ISPF Workplace. A non-traditional approach for CA-ROSCOE users.
  • Editing commands and profiles.
