Storage Network Foundations

Email this Page    Print-Friendly Version

Summary:
This course highlights storage technology in vendor neutral terms. It is a comprehensive introduction to fundamental storage capabilities and the building blocks that underpin those capabilities across storage disciplines. The setting is practical and applied to help the student participate in addressing storage issues as part of a multidisciplinary team. In addition, the course prepares the student for the SNIA Storage Network Foundations SNIA S10-101 Exam. Many people think that they know about storage and storage networking, yet very few people really know the subject. As a result, they struggle with concepts that should be common knowledge. Why the disparity? Because most only know a small part, very well, usually from one vendor and are missing some bits and pieces that are important to the tasks at hand. In this course, if you let us open up the full panorama of storage to you, and you are a shareholder, you will see higher profits; if a vendor, you will adapt better to competitive environments; if a client (manager or administrator) your opportunity will expand and control of decisions, strengthened. A person taking this course will know the concepts and terms across most of today's storage capabilities, know the competitive landscape, and be prepared to adapt. This goes against conventional wisdom of product training. Even storage vendor employees with thirty plus years experience, going back to drum drives, have said that they learned things from this course, things that will help them every day. When you have a baseline, it is a great equalizer, and that improves profits and paychecks all the way around.Explosive information growth has resulted in a people shortage. Many people take storage product training; however, few understand the breadth of storage capabilities. Still fewer understand the basic building blocks that underpin those capabilities. As a result, it is difficult to find people with an integrated literacy across storage disciplines. This course seeks to balance the technical breadth of storage professionals. It enables the storage administrator to improve their problem-solving skills while gaining transferable technical depth. It enables the manager to understand limits and choose strategic direction. Both are no longer bound by vendor specific language, and in fact, they will share a common language. The many terms including SAN, Array, Migration, Replica and Clone, by name sound like characters in a science fiction movie. Understanding the terms composition, roles and interactions provide the foundation for developing and maintaining storage solutions. Business depends on these storage solutions. They are not just building blocks; they are put together certain ways to meet a purpose. The course provides a set of practical approaches required to help new and experienced storage administrators and managers to do their job better.

Duration:
3 Days/Lecture & Lab

Audience:
Everyone responsible for storage service delivery and support for new and existing storage products and services; this typically includes new and experienced development, administration, implementation, delivery, and support and management staff.
