Functional Programming is Terrible

In his presentation at NE Scala, R̼nar Bjarnason talks about things he normally doesn't talk about. While he is usually an advocate for functional programming, here he plays devil's advocate, “As a conceptual framework, functional programming empowers us to write software that is modular, highly reusable, and easy to reason about. But practicing this discipline in Scala comes with a number of difficulties and idiosyncrasies that need to be addressed.”

But don't worry, there's a happy ending. R̼nar begins by talking about what functional programming is, brings up some of its issues, solutions to those issues, and concludes with reasons to love functional programming.

There's more from NE Scala 2014!

Follow along as we post each of the talks from this year's Northeast Scala Symposium.
