At the New York Times, editors distribute content, news, and articles to third party agencies like Reuters and AP, as a side business. In order to keep it from the main CMS, NYT developers created a separate system called Blackbeard. It's a single-page web application, with high interactions among users, using Scala for its exciting backend.
