The class provides hands-on practice and valuable insight into approaches to help the participant pass the PMP examination. Among which are practice questions based on PMI format, tips to analyze the question and its answer choices, study tips and techniques, test conduction, and testing center guidelines. There are varying degrees of lecture and/or hands-on experience in each of PMIs nine main knowledge areas and five process groups. Great emphasis is placed on the important knowledge areas of Cost, Time, and Risk Management. The class time is deliberately set as 35 contact hours to directly comply with PMIs PMP eligibility requirement of 35 hours of formal PM education. The course is designed as an intense immersion course with a non-negotiable expectation that students will not miss any part of the course. Doing so will dilute the learning process and may violate PMIs 35-hour training requirement. In addition to this requirement, individuals with a four-year degree must document 4,500 hours leading and directing project tasks over a minimum 36 months. Those without a four-year degree must document 7,500 hours in a position of responsibility leading and directing specific tasks over a minimum 60 months of project management experience.
Since PMI mandates the minimum experience levels cited above, students should have recent hands-on project management experience. The course merely begins the students preparation for the examination. After the course students must maintain a conscientious study program and focus until they sit for the PMP examination.
