Training Summary
Solaris is an ideal server operating system. It does not require a GUI, it has low system overhead, it can work with open source or Solaris specific software solutions, and it can run every daemon available. Out of the box distributions, however, are not tuned for running a server and each service has its own set of quirks. This course has the step-by step procedures for building Solaris servers with logging and security. How to setup and integrate the following services are covered in the class: Samba, NFS, NIS, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, sendmail, and the services under inetd and SMF. Both the Solaris specific and open source solutions are explored.
Prerequisites
Students should have an understanding of basic system commands, such as cp, mkdir, and ps. Students should also have taken the Solaris 10 Administration course part one.

Audience
If you administer a Solaris workstation attached to a network, this course provides critical information on how to be a Solaris client or server. If you are a network administrator, this course shows you the capabilities of Solaris as a network server. If you are responsible for integration of UNIX into your IT architecture, this course shows you how Solaris can solve architecture problems.
